CONNECT2CE aims at tackling the weak accessibility of regional, peripheral and cross-border areas of central Europe to and from main transport networks and hubs, which is caused by the long lasting phenomenon of urbanisation.
CONNECT2CE will do so by elaborating harmonised and coordinated transnational strategies, action plans and tools to be mainstreamed and implemented at regional and cross border level through pilot actions, in three areas all connected and intertwined with one another and all being essential elements that contribute to the enhancement of PT services of peripheral/cross-border regions:
Connectivity (PSOs/PSCs, harmonisation of multimodal timetables, regional and cross-border rail services)
Integrated ticketing and tariff schemes (integration of regional and cross border multimodal tickets will be tested and implemented for the first time),
Implementation of the most efficient and innovative ICT tools on info-mobility
These outputs will be developed at transnational level, as common solutions to common problems. This approach will be applied throughout the duration of the project, by the active participation of all project partners in all work packages applying the elaborated territorial strategies and action plans at local, regional and cross-border level, thereby combining transport and territorial development.
The internal technical coordination meeting for CONNECT2CE was held as a web conference on Tuesday, March 24th 2020.
The improvements of bus connections from southern Burgenland to Graz begun on 2nd March 2020 with the extension of two bus lines, providing a better public transport service for commuters who work in Styria. The project was launched after a feasibility study on the CONNECT2CE project was carried out.
The Memorandum of Understanding on the improvement of international train services between Croatia and Slovenia within the CONNECT2CE project was signed on February 12th 2020 at the premises of the Hotel Esplanade in Zagreb.
Million total budget
CONNECT2CE project has worked on analysis of the current situation of Central Europe peripheral and cross-border accessibility to regional/national/European networks and hubs in order to provide tools and toolboxes to help decision makers take the measures and prepare specific projects for gradual improvement of the situation. A role of decision makers can be taken by any entity, authorised for improvement of cross-border public transport, i.e. public authority, transport agency or transport operator.
Three different Toolboxes are implemented, to cover the three main topics addressed by CONNECT2CE:
Transnational toolbox for improving regional and cross-border railway and public transport connections
Transnational toolbox for applying multimodal tariff schemes and ticketing in Central Europe
Transnational toolbox for implementing info-mobility systems in Central Europe
The aim of transnational toolboxes is to facilitate improvement of peripheral and cross-border accessibility in Central Europe to regional, national and European networks and hubs.
The objective of the transnational toolboxes is to provide practical guidance for public authorities and passenger transport operators for implementation of measures to improve public transport in the area.
Objective of transnational tools is to provide the user with identification of different options when strategically planning improvement of cross-border public transport connectivity and suggestions to choose among them (WHAT TO DO). The tools are available on EUSurvey web platform.
The toolbox gives the user practical guidelines on implementation of improvement system or service in cross-border public transport – HOW TO DO a project implementation plan.
