Every two years the European office of the Climate Alliance awards the Climate Star to municipalities
and regions with outstanding achievements in climate protection. This year’s ceremony took place in Lower Austria (on occasion of Austria’s current EU Council Presidency) on the 18 th of October.
A total of 15 ongoing or completed projects from seven countries were awarded, according to the criteria of sustainability, multiplier effect, media effectiveness, innovation and involvement of the population. The Austrian BOOSTEE-CE partner Judenburg received the Climate Star in the Category 2 –“up to 100,000 inhabitants” for the project “Climate action with staying power”. The comparison between 1990 and today makes it clear: 27 % less energy consumption and 58 % less CO 2 emissions in municipal buildings, 18 % less CO 2 emissions in the city of Judenburg (excluding transport and industry). The ongoing expansion of the district heating grid powered with biomass waste heat from the pulp mill at nearby Pöls (an award-winning project itself), supplying already 44% of the households, contributes greatly to this achievement. In addition, there has been a 500-fold increase in photovoltaic systems since 2009 to almost 1,800 kWp. Every year 13.9 GWh are generated from hydropower.

Within the pilot action, Municipality Velenje installed smart meters in the Music School Fran Korun Koželjski Velenje which was built in 1987 (newer part of the building was built in 1998). The energy consumption of the building has been identified at 758 970 kWh/year for heating, while the electricity consumption is 201 629.10 kWh/year. In the beginning of the pilot action, meetings and discussions were held with school management where they have highlighted their needs to improve energy efficiency. In April 2018, a study was completed, which defined the initial state of the building, envisaged were soft organizational measures and the installation of smart meters. In September 2018, the first intermediate results were identified within the 2nd study. The results are promising and show a considerable decrease in electricity and heat energy consumption as well.

In October 2018, City of Koprivnica finished implementation of intelligent energy management systems into two buildings, Braća Radić Elementary School and the Kindergarten Loptica. The system includes measuring devices and software for displaying and comparing the results. Energy management system monitors and records data on electric energy, gas and water consumption as well as internal temperature and CO2 level. Ultimately, the system will enable better management of energy consumption, easier maintenance of facilities and financial savings.

BOOSTEE-CE project activities (WP1-2) presented at the 3DGeoInfo event, organized within the GeoDelft 2018 bunch of conferences (https://www.tudelft.nl/geodelft2018/). Among its activities, the project is developing a practical and user-friendly web tool – 3DEMS – based on heterogeneous databases and 3D building models (LOD1 and LOD2) to provide easy access to buildings energy information and allow policy makers to better plan strategies and retrofits.

On 18-19 October 2018 the partnership will gather in the city of Zlín (Czech Republic) for the 4th partner meeting. Zlín is famous for the Bata shoemaker company, which is still a family-owned business and started originally in Zlín.
We will discuss the OnePlace platform, our pilot actions, energy efficiency financing among others.

The event was held with the municipal e5/eea team on 7 February 2018. Activities for the year 2018 were defined and planned. Among the projects that were thouroughly discussed was the implementation of the BOOSTEE-CE pilot action at Lindfeld school centre.

EGTC NOVUM presented on 9 February 2018 the BOOSTEE-CE project during the meeting of the “Planning and spatial management” working group within the “Together we solve problems” project (Interreg V-A Czech Republic-Poland).

City of Velenje and E-Institute organised the first focus group meeting in Velenje on 18 January 2018 at Vila Bianca. 29 participants were informed about the purpose of BOOSTEE-CE and local pilot. The stakeholders were actively participate in development of OnePlace.

The Emilia-Romagna Region has arranged the first focus group meeting, to present the project, its objectives, actions and launch a first exchange of ideas and suggestions on the actions in progress. To better define the usable information, a specific questionnaire was created.

Mazovia Energy Agency organized the first focus group meeting of the BOOSTEE-CE project. The event took place on 7 December 2017 at the Copernicus Science Center in Warsaw and gathered 50 participants.

Tolna County Development Agency has organized the 1st Hungarian focus group meeting of project BOOSTEE-CE in Tolna at 17 November 2017. Five participants took part on the event, two of them acting as local stakeholders.

On 8 November 2017 Judenburg’s proud e5-team received the award in a festive ceremony in the town’s venue centre where BOOSTEE-CE project was also presented.

Energy agency of the Zlín Region organised the 1st focus group meeting with 10 participants from Energy Agency of the Zlín Region as the project partner, Zlín Region as the associated partner and Geovap company as the significant regional stakeholder.

City of Koprivnica and Regional Energy Agency North have organized 1st focus group meeting of project BOOSTEE-CE. The event gathered 26 participants who are detected as local stakeholders. Project was presented and active discussion was held about benefits of the project.

The Emilia-Romagna Region attended the green technologies Expo, which has 1.200 exhibitors on 113.000 square meters, over 200 events and 1.000 speakers at conferences. BOOSTEE-CE project was also presented!

EGTC NOVUM presented the BOOSTEE-CE project during the 6th International COnference of Universities associated in Academic Coordination Centre at the Euroregion Neisse which took place on 11 October 2017 in Liberec (Czech Republic).

Tolna County Development Agency introduced the BOOSTEE-CE project at the Hungarian Ministry of National Development on 22 September 2017.
