Central Europe Eco-Tourism: tools for nature protection

The last European ‘State of Environment Report’ states that the most effective goal related to nature conservation is to foster ecosystems resilience, a vision in which human activities are the main driving force. Within protected areas, tourism can be the most effective tool to valorize natural heritage, to contribute to its conservation, and to achieve well-being of local communities. The identification of appropriate, cost-effective and low-impact models to manage a sustainable tourism, however, remains an open challenge in central Europe. In this context, the CEETO project aimed at implementing an innovative governance system for tourism based on a participatory planning approach that will help to improve the managing capacities of managers of protected areas. Moreover, CEETO aimed at identifying and testing innovative management and monitoring tools specifically focused on sustainable tourism activities in different contexts.
