ABOUT THE PROJECT

In spring 2019, ten international partners from Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary joined forces in the Interreg project CORCAP. Their common goal was to contribute to better coordination of both transport planning and spatial planning along the TEN-T corridor Orient/East-Med. This crucial transport corridor connects the ports of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea with Central Europe and South-East Europe. CORCAP aimed at improving the utilization of existing infrastructures and interfaces of combined freight transport in the Rostock-Budapest section of the corridor and beyond. A central motivation for the transnational project cooperation was the ongoing planning procedure for the new railway line between Dresden and Prague, which will significantly improve the transport conditions along the corridor in the direction of Prague, Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest.

CORRIDOR CAPITALISATION PLANS

The corridor capitalization plans are a key output of the joint project collaboration within CORCAP. They address existing strategies and instruments in the fields of transport and logistics, regional development and spatial planning at local, regional, national and cross-border levels. As informal guidelines, they provide important orientation for the promotion of sustainable freight transport in all project regions.

PILOT ACTIONS

To demonstrate the short term benefits of better accessibility and connectivity and to underline the added value of the strategic infrastructure investment, practical steps towards more sustainable freight transport have also been taken within the CORCAP project through pilot actions. Through them, the project partners have tested innovative approaches for new intermodal services, investigated attractive multimodal logistics locations and found solutions for the better connection of inland ports along the TEN-T corridor Orient/East-Med.
