The CIVITAS Forum 2019 was held in Graz, Austria, from 2-4 October. InterregCE sister projects, EfficienCE and LOW-CARB, took the opportunity at Europe’s top sustainable urban mobility event to present their plans of capacity building for integrated low carbon mobility planning in Central Europe with leading figures in the field from across the continent and beyond.

A joint webinar by CIVITAS ECCENTRIC and LOW-CARB was held on the 17^th of September 2019. Participants learned from experts of both teams how to incorporate the urban periphery of city-scapes into sustainable mobility planning. The gist of learning outcomes was to structure sustainable mobility using framing of the Functional Urban Area (FUA).

On 6th May 2019, public transport experts from CE countries met in Brussels at the UITP headquarters to give their feedback about the update of the European SUMP Guidelines. EU project representatives from the Interreg programme also presented their work, and discussed challenges and ideas for future co-operation.

During 15 – 17^th October LOW -CARB together with the Cities Partnership Initiative (PIM) hosted low carbon-mobility planners in Skawina, Poland to demonstrate the different types of e-mobility approaches that different types of towns and cities can use to meet their low carbon mobility goals. LOW-CARB’s Follower City Program has been extended to 01 MAR 2019! Selected regions will profit from a knowledge transfer scheme which includes mentored site visits to LOW-CARB’s partner cities, capacity building workshops, & tool-testing. Travel costs may be reimbursed up to EUR 2,000.

A smart multimodal e-mobility station is on the horizon for Koprivnica, some 70km northeast of Croatia’s capital, Zagreb. The photovoltaic-based station will include a terminal for five e-bikes, an information point (e-kiosk) & new urban furniture. Batteries will store energy collected via the station for e-bike charging while e-buses will be fed by the national grid. Service procurement will begin in May 2018 with a feasibility study. Koprivnica’s plans are closely aligned with Croatia’s National Low Carbon, Transport & Climate Change Adaptation strategies besides the city’s Development Masterplan, fostering intermodality.

From June 1st, 2017 until May 31st 2020, eleven partners will implement a EUR 2.7m Interreg Central Europe project to build capacity for integrated low-carbon mobility planning in different types of functional urban areas across CE. LOW-CARB will link and finance the implementation of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP) and work towards institutional co-ordination and co-operation.
